Montréal, September 24, 2015 – Dr. Pierre Coutu, President of Aviation Strategies International (ASI), delivered a presentation on the importance of Airport Operations Control Centres (AOCCs) at the 2nd China International Airport Summit in Qingdao, China.

A panel member on the Airport Operations Management workshop, Dr. Coutu emphasized AOCCs as critical strategic features that airports require to improve their operational and financial performance, identifying high-quality infrastructure, highly efficient logistics management, and effective staff training as the three key drivers of airport performance.

Judging from the new and impressive Qingdao International Airport Project, China’s aviation system is undergoing a profound transformation that will benefit its users for generations to come,” observed Dr. Coutu.

Dr. Pierre Coutu is recognized and respected worldwide as an expert on airport strategic management and operational effectiveness matters. Dr. Coutu is a former Airport Director for Transport Canada and also served as the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of the International Aviation Management Training Institute (IAMTI). He has taught Airport Management in International Aviation MBA programs at Concordia University in Canada, the Toulouse Business School in France, the Beijing University for Aeronautics and Astronautics in China, and the Danau Krems University in Austria. In 2013, he co-authored a textbook titled Airport Operations, published and distributed worldwide by McGraw-Hill. One of several major aviation projects Dr. Coutu currently oversees the Global ACI-ICAO Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP) for which he is Programme Executive.

The 2nd China International Airport Summit (Qingdao) gathered senior officials from civil aviation departments, research institutes, associations, airport management groups, airlines, financial institutions and airport equipment manufacturers to discuss issues related to airport planning, development, construction, operations and cooperation. The Summit builds from an airport industry communication platform for the construction and operation of the new Qingdao airport and aims to promote the development of the airport industry in Qingdao and China as a whole.
