Montréal, October 5, 2016 – Yesterday, at the University Club of Montreal, Aviation Strategies International (ASI) hosted a cocktail and informal colloquy on megatrends affecting the future of civil aviation. Presented by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Montreal Branch, the event was presided by Captain Donald Van Dyke, Fellow of the RAeS (FRAeS) and Permanent Representative of the Society to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

ASI-RAeS EventASI and RAeS experts offered brief presentations on such topics as:
• The Legal Implications of the Digital Transformation for Aviation, by Ruwantissa Abeyratne FRAeS (ASI);
• The Internet of Things (IoT) and Civil Aviation, by Christophe Bouchaud (ASI);
• Meeting Global Aerospace Manpower Challenges, by Jean LaRoche FRAeS; and
• Aviation Security and its Impact on Tourism, by Chris Lyle FRAeS.

The event sparked lively discussions among the audience members, which included industry partners as well as many Permanent Representatives to the ICAO Council.

“Megatrends such as technological breakthroughs, climate change, terrorism and demographic evolution have huge and accelerating impacts on the future of civil aviation. Decision makers must start thinking about how civil aviation will adapt to those changes, especially given the fast-paced evolution of our societies,” emphasized Dr. Coutu during his concluding remarks.

ASI is a Corporate Partner of the RAeS. Established in 1866, the RAeS is the world’s only professional body dedicated to the entire aerospace community.
